Kjelshus awarded 2019 Merit Shop Construction Scholarship

While our associations are still collecting their 2020 scholarship applications, we would like to recognize the 2019 scholarship recipients from Construction Education Foundation of Minnesota, which is sponsored by Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Minnesota and North Dakota member companies. The foundation awarded Hayden Kjelshus a Merit Shop Construction Scholarship.

Kjelshus graduated from Perham High School in Perham, MN and planned on attending Minnesota State University Moorhead’s Construction Management program.

One achievement that Kjelshus is proud of is learning the family trade of construction.

“My grandpa started a construction company, which my parents now own. Instead of just giving me a job, I had to earn it and be trusted by the foreman,” he said.

“The foreman feels I am a quick learner and like to learn as much as possible to be successful. I feel because of his encouragement and … that I enjoy this trade, is the reason I chose Construction Management as a major,” explained Kjelshus.

After completing the Construction Management Program, Kjelshus would like to return to the Perham area and work at his family owned construction company and possibly take over the family business if the opportunity is there.
