January 2021 President’s Perspective

by Dan Beaving

Hello fellow Project Build Minnesota supporters – I am truly honored to be serving as your 2021 President!

As a brief introduction, I started my career in construction at the age of 18 as a residential carpenter and worked in the trades through technical school and college. That field experience taught me the benefits of onsite training to complement the traditional classroom setting.

Currently, I am a project manager at Shingobee Builders, a commercial general contractor located in Loretto, Minn. I oversee a multitude of projects ranging from hotels and retail to restaurants and dental facilities.

I started my involvement with Project Build in 2018 as an opportunity to give back to the industry that has given me so much. In my time with the organization, I have seen change in the thought processes of the younger generation. Four years of college may not be the best option for some individuals, and I believe it is our goal to bring other options to their attention.

With construction and manufacturing industries being deemed essential businesses during the Covid-19 pandemic, we have been presented with new opportunities to educate on the importance of working in the construction industry. We can adapt and continue to build even during times of uncertainty.

As we push on into 2021, I have the utmost confidence in Project Build. With our talented board members, we will continue to educate and spread awareness about the rewarding careers in construction. I want to give special thanks to Bob Heise and 2020 President David Siegel for their guidance and continued support of this great organization. Our past leadership has directed us to achieve the great progress that we have had to date.

Cheers to a new year!
